Dear Friend, No American should lose a job for expressing sincerely held religious beliefs. But that’s exactly what happened to Lacey Smith. Lacey was a respected flight attendant at Alaska Airlines. When the company invited employees to discuss proposed federal legislation on an internal message board, she believed she could participate in the conversation like everyone else. Instead, she lost her job. I’m Kelly Shackelford, President, CEO, and Chief Counsel of First Liberty. When I learned what happened to Lacey, I knew we had to get involved. I knew we had to stand with Lacey. Lacey shared concerns rooted in her faith about the potential impact of the legislation on religious freedom, women, and people of faith. She wasn’t disrespectful. She wasn’t disruptive. She simply expressed her sincerely held beliefs. But instead of respecting her right to participate in the discussion, Alaska Airlines first investigated and then terminated her.. That’s not only unfair. It’s illegal. Federal law protects Americans from religious discrimination in the workplace. No employer should be able to punish workers because of their faith. That’s why First Liberty is fighting for Lacey. No One Should Be Fired for Expressing Their Faith

It’s about whether Americans can openly express faith-based viewpoints in the workplace without risking their careers. A victory for Lacey could help strengthen protections for countless employees who want the freedom to live and work according to their convictions. Unfortunately, stories like this are becoming more common.
